I have been using baskets for almost all my adult life for the craft projects that I like to do at home and I have been finding that they often can be used in ways that will impress my friends and you will find they will impress your friends too.

All I do is look for ideas in magazines and on television and in stores at the mall and then I set quietly and think about how I might alter those things I have seen so that I can mix and match the elements into some thing completely different and in the process I will have created some thing completely unique and I didnt really do anything other than combine elements of what I see already in the world.

Once I hone in on a thing that I like that includes a basket. I choose a basket as it is beautiful and it gives me a ready made container that will hold my master piece and it is easy to move, give and transport so there is no further assemble on my part or that of the gift recipient. We both appreciate it. It's easy. That is why I start with a basket.

I find a cheap one as they almost always are and I will chose something to line that basket so it covers the inside. This works especially well if you are using used baskets. This covers the blemishes and looks great and no one ever knows the difference because you can glue the covering to the basket so unless they take it apart the damages are covered for good.

Once I have chosen my basket and the covering to make it look pretty I will be ready to fill it with my favorite things that I found on my treasure hunting adventure trip earlier when I went online or to the mall or in magazines. I take what ever I am putting in and that is when I start placing it together and once I have found the right combination I will start to glue the parts together with good industrial strength glue.

The glue I use is a really good one. An epoxy that you can buy in most any hardware store. I buy mine in either the craft department or the hardware department. Some times one will be cheaper than the other so you need to check the pricing in each. Take your glue and starting with the elements on the bottom of the basket you glue them down and let them dry over night. This assures you will have a sturdy basket that will hold together for a long time.

If you try to glue all at once chances are you will not get it put together solidly and there is a chance it will not stay because the parts will move as you add new elements on top of others. Thus the importance of layering and letting it dry for each layer.

So there you have it a basket made to look great on the cheap with little or no real talent and very little cost. Your friends will love them and you will have the pride of saying you made it yourself.
