When ever you're moving to a new home it can be so stressful on everyone involved, the homeowners, neighbors, the movers but moving is especially stressful on young children. Kids young and old often become upset when their daily routine is disrupted. It's expected that adolescent age children often fear the loss of friends and dread the idea of having to make new friends and meet new people in an unfamiliar school or neighborhood. But there are steps you can take to help alleviate fears and concerns in children and get them involved in the move.

First, communication is the most important tip anyone can make. It's important for parents to demystify the moving process by providing children with as much information as possible and allowing them to participate in decision-making discussions. This will give children a sense of control and help relieve anxiety.

Again when it comes to communicating, you seriously need to discuss all the positive aspects of the new place your kids are going to have to adventure into. You know, try to tell your kids what it will be like at their new home. Obviously when it comes to school you need to work that one in as well. Try to contact the school ahead of time and arrange for a tour so that the initial jitters can be conquered right away.

Second, if you have smaller school age children communicating with that age can be the most challenging. Try to make a game out of the whole thing. I know the last thing you want to do is play games when you have so much to do yourself, but these are things that you can do as a parent that I feel is sort of your duty to help kids cope with the move. It's not that hard to make small things exciting. Allow kids to pack some of their own personal belongings.

This also gives kids some sense of control. This can be very easy for you if you are using moving pods & storage for your move. This is a great way to save your self time and money. If you have hired professional movers you can ask for some assistance and patience as we. Let then know that you need some time for your child or children to pack some items so they can put it onto the truck themselves.

Third, because we all fear the unknown, if possible, take children with you to look at potential neighborhoods, homes/apartments, and schools. It may be more expensive and require extra effort, but it will ease the transition and help children begin to make the adjustment. If this is not possible, take a camera or video recorder with you when you go. Your children will appreciate the photos and/or video that you bring back, and it will help them begin the transition.

Fourth, this might be a difficult one but try to resist sending children to grandma's house when you are packing and moving. Allow children to participate. This will help them to understand what's happening and adjust more easily to their new surroundings. If you're using the pods moving system or container storage this is why this will work so well for you. Allow children to have their tantrum or two. This is the only way they can show frustration.

Finally, don't take it personally if your children blame you for having to move and having to move from their friends. Moving and relocating is difficult on everyone involved. No matter how well you've prepared children, you have to expect them to be a little upset and allow them some time to accept the changes. They will almost certainly grow to love their new home just as much as the old one.

Don't forget that the best way to get a great rate quote is to compare multiple carriers. That is the secret to saving money. Make sure when you accept your quote you get the size of the container correct the first time for your requirements. If you end up requiring additional space it will cost you a lot more in the long run and you can kiss goodbye to the idea of a cheap portable moving container.
